PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania – (Jul. 16, 2018) A night out, party vibes, black lights, and glowing… axes? The newest party spot in Pittsburgh isn’t a dance club or bar; it’s competitive axe-throwing venue LumberjAxes, in Millvale, which is introducing Cosmic Axe-Throwing nights on Thursdays between 7 and 10 p.m. Think of them like popular “cosmic bowling” nights, but with an edge.
Competitive axe-throwing is a fast-growing trend in the U.S. and Canada. Opened last year, LumberjAxes was Pittsburgh’s first axe-throwing venue and remains the largest in the region – its 7,500-square-foot warehouse space is outfitted with 20 throwing lanes.
While axe-throwing may seem like an extreme way to have a good time, LumberjAxes, a member of the National Axe-Throwing Federation, adheres to rigorous safety regulations and creates a fun, welcoming atmosphere for adults of all experience levels, from old hands to newbies encountering their inner lumberjacks for the first time. Just gather some friends, book a lane and come as you are – LumberjAxes will provide all the axes you can throw, along with experts to instruct on proper technique and safety.
On Cosmic Axe-Throwing Nights, the format is the same, but the rustic warehouse is transformed with black lights, fluorescent targets, and fluorescent wraps on the axe-handles. Visitors are encouraged to wear white, so they can glow too.
“We wanted to create an alternative to the typical party night,” says LumberjAxes founder Corey Deasy, who also founded the region’s first escape-room business. “We’re proud to have introduced axe-throwing to Pittsburgh, but we’re not going to rest on our laurels. We’re always thinking of new ways to enhance the experience. And we know Pittsburghers will be game to try whatever we cook up.”
Located right next to Grist House Craft Brewery, LumberJaxes is BYOB, walkable from Lawrenceville and easily accessible from the North Hills and all corners of the city.
To book a lane for cosmic axe-throwing (Thursdays between 7 and 10 p.m.), groups must include at least six people. The space will accommodate up to 100 people for parties and corporate events. All participants must be at least 13 years old. Those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The cost for group sessions is $35 per person for a 2.5 hour block; throwers can book in advance on the website, http://axethrowingpgh.com/bookaxethrowing/.
