LumberjAxes Gets a Rustic Renovation

Pittsburgh’s premier axe-throwing venue breaks out the black lights for weekly party nights.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania – (05/12/2019) Last year, LumberjAxes introduced the increasingly popular activity of competitive axe-throwing to the Pittsburgh area. Now the business is undertaking a redesign of its space in Millvale, so guests can enjoy a rustic retreat without ever leaving the city.

Competitive axe-throwing is a fast-growing trend in the U.S. and Canada. Opened last year, LumberjAxes was Pittsburgh’s first axe-throwing venue and remains the largest in the region, with 20 throwing lanes in a 7,500-square-foot warehouse. While axe-throwing may seem like an edgy way to have a good time, LumberjAxes, a member of the National Axe-Throwing Federation, adheres to rigorous safety regulations and creates a fun, welcoming atmosphere for adults of all experience levels.

To design a space befitting the business’s woodsy name, LumberjAxes founder Corey Deasy and his team are working with HGTV Design Star finalist and fellow Pittsburgher Luca Paganico to add elements that will transport visitors to a cabin in the woods. These will include raw lumber and pallet-board details, barrel tables, forest wallpaper and rustic chandeliers. Other upgrades will include TVs above each lane to keep track of scoring, much like at a bowling alley, as well as a mural of famous Pittsburghers.

“I’m excited to be working with fellow Steel City entrepreneurs to create something new and different,” says Paganico of Deasy and his team. “I love to bring a sense of fun to design, and LumberjAxes really embodies that spirit.”

Deasy adds, “We’re always finding ways to enhance the experience for our guests. These upgrades will make a visit to LumberjAxes feel that much more like a break from the ordinary. Plus, they’re going to create an Instagram-worthy backdrop for all your axe-throwing photos.”

Located right next to Grist House Craft Brewery, LumberJaxes is walkable from Lawrenceville and easily accessible from the North Hills and all corners of the city. To book a lane, groups must include at least six people on weekdays and at least eight on weekends. All participants must be at least 13 years old; players under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The cost for group sessions is $35 per person for a 2.5 hour block; throwers can book in advance on the website, http://axethrowingpgh.com/bookaxethrowing/. Walk-ins, available at limited times and only on specific days of the week, are offered at a cost of $20 per person per hour. The space will accommodate up to 100 people for parties and corporate events. Cosmic Nights, complete with black lights and neon targets and axes, are offered Thursdays from 7-10 p.m.
