PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania – (2/2/18) Pittsburgh’s first axe-throwing venue, LumberjAxes, is now open in Millvale. Owner Corey Deasy, who also co-founded the region’s first escape-room business, invites groups of friends, family members and co-workers to try their hand at the edgy entertainment phenomenon.
Competitive axe-throwing venues first hit the scene in Canada a decade ago. In the last few years, the trend has gained momentum, with 50 axe-throwing clubs now open in Canada and the U.S., and more on the way. LumberjAxes is the largest venue in the U.S. – its rustic, 7,000-square-foot warehouse space is outfitted with 20 throwing lanes (with plans to add more). Located right next to Grist House Craft Brewery, it is walkable from Lawrenceville and easily accessible from the North Hills and all corners of the city.
Deasy specializes in bringing innovative entertainment to Pittsburgh. “Axe-throwing may seem kind of out-there, but I knew Pittsburgh folks would be game to try it,” he says. “This is a cutting-edge city, and as a Pittsburgh native, I’m proud to bring cutting-edge activities here (yes, pun intended).”
He adds, “It’s exciting to be up and running. As much fun as we had creating LumberjAxes, it’s even more fun to see it full of people having a blast. The triumph on a new thrower’s face with they stick an axe in the target for the first time – that’s what it’s all about.”
LumberjAxes welcomes visitors of all experience levels, from old hands to newbies encountering their inner lumberjacks for the first time. Come as you are – LumberjAxes provides all the axes you can throw, and experts are on hand before each session to give instruction on proper technique and safety. If you’re holding a special event elsewhere, LumberjAxes will even bring the party to you: mobile throwing lanes are available for rental.
In order to book, groups must include at least six people on weekdays and at least eight on weekends. The space will accommodate up to 100 people for parties and corporate events. All participants must be at least 18 years old. The cost for group sessions is $35 per person for a 2.5 hour block; throwers can book in advance on the website, http://axethrowingpgh.com/bookaxethrowing/. Walk-ins, available at limited times and only on specific days of the week, are offered at a cost of $20 per person per hour. For an additional $5, throwers can switch up their weaponry to try their hand at ninja stars, and soon, knives, cards and Batman batarangs.
LumberjAxes is a conditional member of the National Axe Throwing Federation.
